A Mother's Perspective: Polishing Off Juvenile Diabetes
I Am So Proud
My son, Adam, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 11 years old. It was the worst day of my life when he asked me if he was going to die. I was so scared myself and didn't know how to answer his questions. We spent a few days in the hospital learning about this disease and how to care for my son.
I instantly became a part of our local organization becoming a family team advisor for the yearly JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes and then becoming a board member for several years. I am also a Silpada Representative. I signed up in December 2006, and I had no idea that Silpada was a contributor to juvenile diabetes. So imagine my surprise when I heard the news.
Adam, age 21, is now a college student. That was another hurdle I had to face—sending my son away to school to care of himself. He has done an excellent job, and I am so PROUD of him.
